The Most Violent City in the World is in Honduras. Mexico has Five of the Top 10.

San Pedro Sula, Honduras is the most violent city in the world according to the Citizen Council of Public Safety and Criminal Justice. The report, released this month, places five out of the top 10 most violent cities in the world in Mexico and found that 40 of the 50 most violent cities in the world are located in Latin America.

5 of the 10 Most Violent Cities in the World are in Mexico
Five of the 10 most violent cities in the world are in Mexico, according to a study of the Citizen Council for Public Safety and Criminal Justice, which placed the Honduras San Pedro Sula at number one in the ranking of the 50 cities more violent, with a rate of 159 murders per 100,000 inhabitants.

In addition to Ciudad Juarez, which fell to second place after relocating first for three consecutive years, among the 10 most violent cities in the world are located Acapulco, with a rate of 128 homicides per 100,000 population; Torreon with a rate of 88, Chihuahua with a rate of 83 and Durango with a rate of 80 homicides, according to the study of the Citizen Council for Public Safety.

The murder rate in Ciudad Juarez is 148 per 100,000 inhabitants.

Among the new cities that entered the list, are two other Mexico: Monterrey and Veracruz.

All those communities listed in the 17 municipalities which account for 43.8% of deaths for
alleged criminal rivalry in the country, released on Wednesday the Attorney General’s Office (PGR). 

Three Mexican cities on the list of 2010 no longer included in the 2011: Tijuana, Reynosa and Matamoros.

Similarly, the report, released Wednesday, found that 45 of the 50 most violent cities in the world are located in the Americas, 40 are in Latin America. Among them 14 are Brazil, Mexico and 12 to five to Colombia.

The study indicates that for the analysis considering all the cities in the world with over 300,000 inhabitants, of which there is statistical information available online homicides.
